Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to lead a high-level review meeting this evening, May 9, to evaluate the cybersecurity preparedness of India’s financial institutions, according to sources.
The virtual meeting has been called amid rising concerns over the safety of critical banking infrastructure as tensions between India and Pakistan escalate.
“Yes, the Finance Minister is holding a review meeting today at 4:30 pm. We have also issued a detailed advisory on cybersecurity,” a senior government official confirmed to Moneycontrol.
The official referred to a recent advisory issued by the ministry, instructing public sector banks and major financial institutions to bolster their digital security defenses.
The meeting is expected to include senior representatives from the finance ministry, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which operates the UPI payment system, as well as top executives from leading public sector banks.
